A brief history
Santa Margherita is an Italian story of passion, hard work, values and tradition which began in 1935 thanks to the vision of Count Gaetano Marzotto and his belief in modern, efficient agricultural methods based on bringing man, nature and technology together.
87 years may have passed since Santa Margherita’s visionary beginning, but its guiding principles have remained unchanged over time and have seen Marzotto’s dream grow into one of the leading producers of wine in Italy. Innovation is the cornerstone and the hallmark of Santa Margherita.
Revolutions in the world of wine are part of who Santa Margherita is and its ability to identify changes in lifestyle and consumption habits - helped by keeping a careful eye on the more than 90 different markets spread over 5 continents - has given, and gives, the advantage of staying ahead of the game. Santa Margherita was in fact one of the pioneers in turning Glera grapes from the hills of Valdobbiadene into Prosecco sparkling wine, contributing to transform a territorial sparkling wine into a global success, since 1952.
Santa Margherita was then responsible for the birth of Pinot Grigio as the world understands it today: a wine that has been able to conquer the palates of several generations of winelovers thanks to its contemporary style, extraordinary combination with different foods and situations. Alongside innovation, sustainability is a counter pillar for Santa Margherita: everything that comes from a healthy environment, when managed wisely and in respect of natural cycles, carries with it a unique value.
