Col Fondo, long an icon of the Valdobbiadene tradition, has been an honoured part of our family history since the early 1900s. Grandfather Abele, first, and then our father Adriano bottled their sparkling wine in the spring; then, the heat that came in May and June caused the wine to re-ferment in the bottle, producing what we have always called “vin col fondo,” or wine with sediment.
Cartizze is the name that identifies an area of 106 hectares in the municipality of Valdobbiadene. The most common theory regarding the origin of the name is that it derives from “gardizze”, a local term for the racks used to dry grapes.
A wine of the “Rive” type and made using grapes from a single vineyard, Col Credas opens to a complex nose with impressive intensity and balance, and delicate fruit and floral notes, such as wisteria and acacia blossom, echoed and underpinned by elegance on the palate and a pronounced bone-dry finish.
